One-Year-Old Eats Heroin from Mother’s Purse

According to Fox News Detroit, Anita Vasquez, a 32-year-old mother from New Haven in Macomb County, Michigan, is awaiting sentencing after pleading no contest to charges of possessing a controlled substance of less than 25 grams and third-degree and fourth-degree child abuse. These charges were brought against her following an incident on July 23, 2022, when her 1-year-old daughter consumed heroin she found in Vasquez’s purse.

The child’s health crisis was brought to the attention of authorities when Vasquez flagged down a Roseville police officer. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office underscored the severe risk Vasquez’s actions posed to her child’s life, highlighting the imperative of holding her accountable for her actions in order to safeguard the child’s welfare.
